During his four years in Ann Arbor, Michigan, he was very active in both academic and didactic areas. He was the Dental Class Representative of 1996. He volunteered and provided pediatric dentistry to migrant kids in a mobile dental clinic setting in Traverse City. And he was the Community Aide in the University Housing. He was also in several committees, including Mouthguard Committee, Welcoming Committee, and Interviewing Committee. Immediately after graduation, Dr. Chu passed his licensing exams in both Northeast Regional Board and Dental Board of California. He is eligible to practice dentistry in over twenty states in the north America. He has been practicing dentistry in California since 1996.

Dr. Chu has been involved in many levels of dental organization, including American Dental Association (ADA), Academy of General Dentistry, California Dental Association and Orange County Dental Society. He also teaches dental students from Bryman College and ROP. Many externship students would do rotation through his dental office to gain necessary experience. For a period of time, he was working closely with local Teamster Union in Orange. He has a strong presence in the local community.
